Bascom Lamar Lunsford
Bascom Lamar Lunsford was an American folklorist, lawyer, banjoist, and singer.
- Born on March 21, 1882, in Mars Hill, North Carolina; died on September 4, 1973.
- Was known as the “Minstrel of the Appalachians.”
- Recorded “I Wish I Was a Mole in the Ground” in 1928 for Brunswick, later included on Harry Smith's “Anthology of American Folk Music.”
- Founded the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival in Asheville in 1928, the first American folk festival.
