Louisa Branscomb
Louisa Branscomb is an American bluegrass songwriter, banjo player, and singer.
- Wrote the song “Steel Rails” as a young woman; it became a longstanding bluegrass hit for Alison Krauss.
- Was one of the first women to lead a bluegrass band on banjo, fronting the band Boot Hill in the 1970s.
- Founded the ScreenDoor Songwriter Alliance, a nonprofit songwriting mentorship organization.
- Received the IBMA's Distinguished Achievement Award in 2017.
