Shayne Bartley
Shayne Bartley is a singer and multi-instrumentalist from Ezel, Kentucky, who plays guitar, banjo and mandolin. Over more than four decades he has worked with bands including the Charlie Sizemore Band, Don Rigsby and Midnight Call, Rarely Herd and David Peterson and 1946, and since the start of 2022 he has played mandolin with Fast Track.
He started out as a teenager playing guitar in his older brother Rick’s band, Newground. In September 1989 he played mandolin and sang harmony on the Charlie Sizemore Band’s gospel album Singing with the Angels (Rutabaga, 1989), recorded at River Tracks Studio in Louisa, Kentucky, with Sizemore on guitar, Jack Williams on banjo and Heath Van Winkle on bass.
His other bands over the years have included the Lost and Found, Southern Blend, Dave Evans, Unlimited Tradition, American Drive and the Karl Shiflett & Big Country Show. While he was with Rarely Herd, the band won two SPBGMA Entertaining Band of the Year awards. As a member of David Peterson and 1946 he toured with Brooks & Dunn on their 2003 Neon Circus Tour. On Don Rigsby and Midnight Call’s Hillbilly Heartache (Rebel, 2006) he played guitar and sang lead and baritone parts behind Rigsby, with Dale Vanderpool on banjo, Jesse Wells on fiddle and Robert Maynard on bass. He has filled in with J.D. Crowe and the New South and has played the Grand Ole Opry several times.
He and Rick recorded together again as the Bartley Brothers on Hit the Road (Rural Rhythm, 2010). Shayne played mandolin, sang baritone and co-produced the album with Rick, and Clay Hess, Josh Hymer, Brandon Godman and Jayd Raines filled out the band.
On December 28, 2021, Fast Track announced Bartley as its mandolinist, taking the place of Jesse Brock alongside Dale Perry on banjo, Steve Day on fiddle, Ron Spears on bass and Duane Sparks on guitar. He was still the band’s mandolinist in August 2026, and was then working on a solo recording.
