The Blue Sky Boys' 1939–1949 Radio Broadcasts, released on Patuxent Music (CD-280) in April 2018, is a definitive four-disc, 128-track archival set drawn from 16-inch lacquer transcription discs recorded at WGST in Atlanta, WCYB in Bristol, and WPTF in Raleigh. Bill Bolick plays guitar and sings; Earl Bolick, mandolin and harmony. The Blue Sky Boys—brothers from Hickory, North Carolina, first recorded for RCA in 1936—were among the most influential close-harmony duets in early country music, their softly blended two-part vocal style a documented primary influence on the Louvin Brothers and Everly Brothers. Sound restoration by Tom Mindte; the set is the most comprehensive document of the Bolicks' Depression- and wartime-era radio career.
