Across the Miles, released by Rounder Records in 1994, is an early album from IIIrd Tyme Out — the working band Russell Moore had launched after his time as lead vocalist for Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver in the late 1980s. The lineup that would become the band's classic configuration was beginning to settle in: Moore on guitar and lead vocals, Ray Deaton on bass and bass vocals, Wayne Benson on mandolin and harmony, Steve Dilling on banjo, and Mike Hartgrove on fiddle. The title track became a Moore signature, and the album marked the early run of the band that would go on to win the IBMA Vocal Group of the Year award an unprecedented seven consecutive times.
