IIIrd Tyme Out — known since 2009 as Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out — is one of the most decorated vocal groups in modern bluegrass. Founded in May 1991 by defectors from Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, the band built its reputation on Russell Moore's powerful lead and the kind of locked-in four-part harmony that sweeps awards shows.

- Formed in Cumming, Georgia in May 1991 when guitarist and lead singer Russell Moore, fiddler Mike Hartgrove, and bassist Ray Deaton left Doyle Lawson's Quicksilver; they were joined by mandolinist Alan Bibey and banjoist Terry Baucom, both from Lawson spin-off The New Quicksilver.
- The name came from the fact that each founding member had previously worked in two other bands — IIIrd Tyme Out was literally their third time out.
- Won the IBMA Vocal Group of the Year award seven years in a row from 1994 through 2000, a streak unmatched in the category.
- Russell Moore won IBMA Male Vocalist of the Year in 1994, 1997, 2010, 2011, and 2012.
- Signature recordings include "Erase the Miles" (1991), the title track of Grandpa's Mandolin (1993), and the a cappella rendition of the Platters' "Only You" on Letter to Home (1996).
- Moore is the sole constant member; the current lineup features Wayne Benson on mandolin (on and off since 1992), Keith McKinnon on banjo (since 2013), Nathan Aldridge on fiddle (since 2018), and Colton Baker on bass (since 2023).
- In 2024, Russell Moore joined Alison Krauss & Union Station while continuing with IIIrd Tyme Out when his schedule allows.
