Live at the Mac, recorded in 1998 by IIIrd Tyme Out, captures one of the defining contemporary traditional bluegrass bands in front of an engaged audience. Founded by Russell Moore, whose high tenor became one of the most admired voices in late-twentieth-century bluegrass, IIIrd Tyme Out built a following through relentless touring and a commitment to tight, vocal-centered harmony singing rooted in the Stanley Brothers and early Country Gentlemen. Their live performances were known for the kind of easy professionalism that comes from years on the road with a stable, cohesive band.
