Back to the MAC cover

Back to the MAC, the 2001 release from IIIrd Tyme Out, continues the North Carolina quintet's sustained commitment to close-harmony bluegrass. The group, founded in 1988, built its reputation on precisely stacked three- and four-part vocal arrangements delivered over capable ensemble playing, and this album extends that approach without significant departure. The Old, Old House, a traditional-flavored number in the catalog, is representative of the group's repertoire choices: songs with established melodic and lyric integrity that reward clean harmony treatment. IIIrd Tyme Out occupied a reliable position in the IBMA-era bluegrass mainstream, and Back to the MAC documents the group at a productive and settled point in their career.
