It’s About Tyme (Break A String BAS 2015) was released on 4 September 2015 on Break A String, a label formed for the album, and was produced by Russell Moore and the band. It was recorded at Southern Ground Studios in Nashville, with Brandon Bell engineering and mixing alongside Moore. It was the band’s first album of new material since Prime Tyme four years earlier, and the first since banjo player Steve Dilling and bassist Edgar Loudermilk left; Keith McKinnon (banjo) and Blake Johnson (bass) had joined in 2014, with Wayne Benson on mandolin and Justen Haynes on fiddle.
The fourteen songs include Moore’s own “I’m Leaving You and Fort Worth Too,” Mark Brinkman and Becky Buller’s “Cottontown,” Kyle Burnett’s “Brown County Red,” Billy Edd Wheeler’s “River Bottom,” the Carter Family’s “Are You Tired of Me, My Darling?” and Sam Cooke’s “You Send Me.” “Spindale,” named for the North Carolina town where the radio station WNCW is based, is an instrumental by Benson. “Makes Me Wonder If I Ever Said Goodbye,” which Johnny Rodriguez had a hit with in 1976, is the country two-step Moore reworked for the album.
The album entered the National Bluegrass Survey’s Top 15 Albums chart at number 2 in November 2015 and was number 1 from December 2015 through May 2016. “Brown County Red” reached number 1 on the survey’s Top 30 Songs chart in March 2016, followed by “I’m Leaving You and Fort Worth Too” in April.
