Audie Blaylock and Redline (Rural Rhythm RHY-CD 1042, 2009) is the debut album from the Virginia-based hard-driving bluegrass band led by guitarist and vocalist Audie Blaylock. Evan Ward, Jason Johnson, and Matt Wallace complete the rhythm and vocal core, with a youthful Patrick McAvinue on fiddle — McAvinue would later develop into one of the finest fiddlers of his generation. The album introduces a band committed to a rigorous traditional-bluegrass approach at a time when the genre contained a wide range of stylistic positions; Blaylock's preference for uncompromising traditional sound made the band one of the most consistently conservative contemporary outfits in the genre. The Rural Rhythm release distributed the debut across the bluegrass market and announced a band with clear artistic conviction and the instrumental quality to sustain it.
