Been All Around This World is a posthumous release pairing Jerry Garcia and David Grisman, drawn from informal home recordings made in the early 1990s that capture the two musicians in unguarded, joyful exploration of old-time and folk repertoire. Released in 2004, the album belongs to the series of Garcia-Grisman recordings that revealed Garcia's deep investment in pre-rock American string music, a passion that predated the Grateful Dead and never left him. Grisman's mandolin and Garcia's guitar move through traditional tunes and songs with the relaxed intimacy of two friends playing for pleasure. The title track is a variant of a widely traveled piece from the British Isles, and the duo's handling of it is both learned and loose.
