Blind Dog (Rounder 0254, 1988) is a duo album by Norman Blake and Nancy Blake, recorded at Soundscape Studios in Atlanta with Bill Wolf as recording engineer. Norman plays guitar, and fiddle on the title track and “Old Time Farmer”; Nancy plays second guitar and, on “Billy Gray” and the title track, cello. They sing together on “Grand Coulee Dam,” “Otto Wood the Bandit,” “Everybody Works but Father,” “Fifty Miles of Elbow Room” and “Old Time Farmer.”

Of the twelve tracks, four are credited to Norman Blake: “Billy Gray,” “Blind Dog,” “Shallegra” and “Old Time Farmer.” The others are Woody Guthrie’s “Grand Coulee Dam,” A. P. Carter’s “Fifty Miles of Elbow Room,” and traditional pieces including “Little Stream of Whiskey,” “Wreck of the Old ’97” and “Black Mountain Rag.” Three tracks are instrumentals. The album was nominated for the Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Recording at the 32nd Annual Grammy Awards.
