Cryin’ Heart Blues, released on 30 March 2010 on Rural Rhythm (RHY 1060), is the second album by Audie Blaylock and Redline, following their self-titled debut on the label in 2009. Blaylock produced it. It was recorded at Digital Underground in Greenbrier, Tennessee, with Scott Vestal engineering; Blaylock and Vestal mixed it. The band is Blaylock on guitar, Evan Ward on banjo, Patrick McAvinue on fiddle (and mandolin on “Rummie’s Run”) and Matt Wallace on bass.
All thirteen tracks are by other writers. The title song is by Joe Brown. Bill Monroe wrote “Stay Away from Me” and Carter Stanley “Let’s Part the Best of Friends.” “Troubles Round My Door” is credited to Red Allen and Frank Wakefield and “Pray the Clouds Away” to Jimmy Martin and Paul Williams. Others include Freddie Hart’s “Drink Up and Go Home,” Harley Allen’s “Can’t Keep on Runnin’,” Don Parmley’s “He Is Near” and John Glick’s “Rummie’s Run.”
Blaylock, born in El Paso, Texas, and raised in Lansing, Michigan, joined Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys in 1982, at 19, and spent nine years in the band. He later played with Red Allen, the Lynn Morris Band and Harley Allen, and formed Redline in 2004.
