Dave Evans and River Bend (Vetco Records LP 3036) is a studio album from Dave Evans, the Ohio-based guitarist and vocalist who built a following in the Midwest traditional bluegrass scene through festival performances and independent recordings, joined here by some of the most distinguished instrumentalists in the acoustic country world. Evans plays guitar and sings; Josh Graves plays dobro; Buddy Griffin plays banjo; and Amy Stenberg contributes additional instrumental work. Vetco Records, the Cincinnati-area independent label that documented the Ohio-region bluegrass scene across multiple decades, provided the context for this recording. Graves — the East Tennessee dobro innovator whose work with Flatt & Scruggs had made the instrument central to the bluegrass ensemble — brings an unmistakable authority to the recording that gives Evans' direct traditional approach its most distinguished instrumental support.
