Farewell Trion is a 2010 album by Toronto-based old-time duo Chris Coole and Ivan Rosenberg, self-released on March 20, 2010. Coole (clawhammer banjo, guitar, lead vocals)—a Clifftop banjo contest finalist who took up clawhammer at seventeen—pairs with Rosenberg (dobro, clawhammer banjo, harmony vocals), a Marin County–born multi-instrumentalist who earned a co-writing credit for the 2009 IBMA Song of the Year. The duo bills itself as the only clawhammer-and-dobro pairing in the genre, and their approach—thoughtfully arranged old-time music that sits outside both mainstream bluegrass and the conventional string-band format—is evident throughout a set ranging from "John Hardy" to original compositions. Note: the catalog credits "Matt Flake" as the second musician; the correct name is Ivan Rosenberg.
