Filthy Dirty South (self-released, 2012) is Rising Appalachia's fourth studio album, recorded at Echo Mountain Recording in Asheville, North Carolina, and funded through a Kickstarter campaign. Sisters Leah Song (vocals, banjo, strings) and Chloe Smith (vocals, guitar, strings) lead a band of Abram Racin (double bass), Biko Casini (djembe, congas), and Forrest Kelly (beatbox, washboard), with additional guests on trumpet, trombone, and cello. Widely regarded as the group's breakout recording, the album weaves traditional Appalachian clawhammer banjo, blues, and world percussion into a coherent genre-blurring whole. Note: the catalog's personnel entry lists Ben Isaacs and Calvin Durham, which does not match the Rising Appalachia lineup and appears to reflect a data error.
