Here Today is a one-off album by five musicians: David Grisman on mandolin, Vince Gill on guitar, Herb Pedersen on banjo and guitar, Jim Buchanan on fiddle and Emory Gordy Jr. on bass, all of whom sing. Rounder released it in 1982 as Rounder 0169. All twelve tracks were recorded in January 1982 at Group IV Studios in Hollywood. Grisman and Pedersen produced the record, John Haeny engineered it, and Neil V. Rosenberg wrote the liner notes.

The program is made of country and bluegrass songs by other writers and two instrumentals. Gill sings lead on Jim and Jesse McReynolds’s “I’ll Love Nobody But You,” on the Stanley Brothers’ “Lonesome River” and on “Making Plans.” Pedersen takes the lead on the Louvin Brothers’ “Love and Wealth,” on “Hot Corn, Cold Corn” and on Ralph Stanley and Avril Gearheart’s “Going Up Home,” and Grisman leads Earl Taylor’s “The Children Are Crying.” Jimmy Martin’s “My Walking Shoes” is also on the album. The instrumentals are Earl Scruggs’s “Foggy Mountain Chimes” and the fiddle tune “Billy in the Lowground,” credited to Buchanan as arranger.
