Keep On Going cover

Keep On Going (Rebel REB-CD-1127, 2004) is a compilation of Red Allen's sessions for the Rebel and Melodeon labels from 1963 and 1965, including five previously unreleased cuts. The recordings document Allen and Frank Wakefield at the peak of their partnership with the Kentuckians, with Jim Cox and Robbie Robinson rounding out the band. The 1965 Rebel sessions feature Scotty Stoneman's incendiary fiddle alongside Wakefield's mandolin — a combination that defined the harder edge of the Washington-area bluegrass scene. Allen's lead singing, always more country-inflected than traditional mountain style, gives the material a raw directness. The compilation offers the most complete overview of the Allen–Wakefield Rebel years, including the title track that became a signature of Allen's live repertoire.
