Kentucky Bluegrass collects recordings by Bill Monroe and His Bluegrass Boys for Decca from around 1970, a period when Monroe was consolidating his legacy while continuing to perform and record with the energy and authority that had defined his work since the 1940s. By this point Monroe was widely acknowledged as the founder and patriarch of the genre, and his Decca recordings of the era reflect a musician fully in command of his idiom. "Never Again" is characteristic of Monroe's hard-driving approach, built on the tense, modal sound of his mandolin and the high lonesome ensemble singing his bands had always favored. The album is a solid mid-period document for listeners tracing the arc of Monroe's long recording career from its peak in the late 1940s through to his later years.
