Lester Raymond Flatt cover

Lester Raymond Flatt presents the legendary flatpicker and vocalist in a 1975 solo release that appeared after his long professional partnership with Earl Scruggs had ended. Flatt continued to perform with the Nashville Grass after the 1969 separation, maintaining a traditional approach that contrasted with Scruggs's move toward electric instruments and rock collaboration. This album captures Flatt as an elder statesman — the G-run guitar lick that bears his name was already synonymous with the genre, and his rhythm playing and flat-melody runs remained the foundation on which bluegrass guitar was built. His singing, a world-weary baritone of great natural authority, conveyed the character of a man who had helped invent the music he performed.
