Live at McClure Virginia, released by Rebel Records in 1976, documents Ralph Stanley's 5th Annual Memorial Festival of May 23-25, 1975 at the family-home grounds in McClure, Virginia — the festival that had grown into one of bluegrass's primary working gatherings. Although credited to Ralph Stanley, the album functions as a festival sampler: about a third of the tracks are by the Clinch Mountain Boys, the rest by guest artists including Bill Monroe, Don Reno and Bill Harrell, Jimmy Martin, Larry Sparks, the Country Gentlemen, the Goins Brothers, Raymond Fairchild, the Sullivan Family, the Marshall Family, and the legendary fiddler Leslie Keith. The recordings stand as a primary document of how the mid-1970s southern bluegrass festival circuit actually sounded.
