Live at the Smithsonian (King KSCD 5144, 2001) documents a March 10, 1974 concert at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., broadcast live on National Public Radio — one of the last performances by the Clinch Mountain Boys with lead vocalist Roy Lee Centers, who was killed in an automobile accident in August 1974. Centers, Ricky Lee, and Stanley form the vocal trio; Curly Ray Cline (fiddle) and Jack Cooke (bass) anchor the rhythm section in the band's characteristic hard-driving style. Originally issued on the Atteiram label in 1992, the King reissue followed in 2001 with a further Gusto edition in 2006. The recording preserves an irreplaceable document of the Centers-era Clinch Mountain Boys at full intensity.
