Mac, Doc & Del, released by Sugar Hill Records on October 20, 1998 (SHCD-3883), brings together three of the great working figures of post-war bluegrass — Mac Wiseman, Doc Watson, and Del McCoury — for a summit-style trio session. Jerry Douglas adds dobro and Alison Krauss contributes harmony vocals. Each of the three principals had built a working career of more than forty years by this point: Wiseman across the Dot, RCA, and small-label years; Watson through his folk-revival emergence and the long Sugar Hill catalog; McCoury through his ascent from Bill Monroe's mid-1960s Blue Grass Boys to his own band's commercial peak. The album catches all three in late-working confidence.
