Meet Me by Moonlight (Sugar Hill Records SHC 3897) is a bluegrass gospel duet album from Dudley Connell and Don Rigsby, two of the genre's most admired harmony vocalists, recorded as an intimate two-voice devotional project. Connell plays guitar and sings; Rigsby plays mandolin and sings, the two meeting in the close-harmony framework each had developed through years of work with the Johnson Mountain Boys and the Lonesome River Band respectively. The program draws from the shape-note hymnal tradition and the Appalachian gospel repertoire, presenting devotional material in the unadorned acoustic setting that best suits voices built for close ensemble singing. Aubrey Haynie plays fiddle and Ronnie Simpkins holds the bass on selected tracks, rounding out the spare instrumental frame.
