Motel Shot was released by Atco Records in 1971 (SD 33-358), the fifth album by Delaney & Bonnie and Friends and a mostly acoustic one. The title refers to the impromptu, sometimes late-night jam sessions that touring musicians hold on the road. Delaney Bramlett produced; Bruce Botnick, Richard Moore and Lewis Peters are credited as recording engineers.

Delaney Bramlett plays guitar and sings, and Bonnie Bramlett sings. The guests include Duane Allman on slide guitar, Gram Parsons and Clarence White on guitar and vocals, Leon Russell on piano and vocals, Dave Mason and Ben Benay on guitar, John Hartford on banjo and fiddle, Bobby Keys on saxophone, Carl Radle and Kenny Gradney on bass, Jim Keltner on drums and Bobby Whitlock on vocals. The twelve tracks include A. P. Carter’s “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” Bob and Johnnie Wills’s “Faded Love,” Robert Johnson’s “Come On in My Kitchen” and Delaney Bramlett’s “Never Ending Song of Love,” which reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was recorded by the New Seekers and Dickey Lee at about the same time. The album reached number 65 on the Billboard album chart.
