I miss you darling more and more every day
As heaven would miss the stars above
With every heartbeat I still dream of you
I remember our faded love

As I read the letters that you wrote to me
It is you that I'm thinking of
As I read the lines that to me were so dear
I remember our faded love

I remember the past and all the pleasures we knew
As we watched the mating of the dove
It was in the springtime that you said good-bye
I remember our faded love

History

“Faded Love” is credited to Bob Wills, his father John Wills and his brother Billy Jack Wills, who is named as the lyricist. Bob Wills said the melody started as an old fiddle tune his father knew, which father and son reworked together. Some fiddlers hear in it “Darling Nelly Gray,” the song Benjamin Hanby published in 1856; Johnny Gimble, who played on the first recording, remembered thinking Wills was playing that tune when he first heard it, though others do not hear the likeness.
