Route 10 (Pinecastle PRC 1123, 2002) is the eleventh album from Special Consensus, the long-running Chicago-area traditional bluegrass band founded by banjoist Greg Cahill in 1975. The core lineup of Cahill with Jamie Clifton on guitar, Josh Williams on mandolin, and Tim Dishman on bass is augmented by guest appearances from dobro master Rob Ickes and fiddler Ron Stewart, adding firepower to one of the genre's most consistently accomplished working bands. The title track, "Route 10, Box 782," became so closely associated with Special Consensus that the band returned to it in later recordings. The album is widely regarded as one of their signature statements — a declaration of stylistic conviction from a band that had spent more than a quarter-century refining its traditional bluegrass approach well outside Nashville.
