With Special Consensus he played string bass and sang tenor or high baritone on 25th Anniversary (Pinecastle, 2000), with Chris Walz on guitar, the band’s founder Greg Cahill on banjo and Josh Williams on mandolin. On Route 10 (Pinecastle, 2002), with Jamie Clifton on guitar and Ron Stewart and Rob Ickes as guests, he again sang harmony, and on Hal Poindexter’s “The Old Man in the Park” he took the lead on the choruses. He co-wrote “Beginner’s Luck” with the guitarist Justin Carbone for the band’s Everything’s Alright (2004), and he came back as a guest on bass for The Trail of Aching Hearts (2007).

With his wife, the singer and mandolinist Tina Adair, he put together the Tina Adair Band, whose album Born Bad (2013), with Sim Daley on banjo and Forrest Goodman on bass, has Dishman on guitar. That April he was one of the musicians Alan Jackson gathered at the Castle studio outside Nashville to record The Bluegrass Album (EMI, September 2013), with Sammy Shelor on banjo, Adam Steffey on mandolin, Tim Crouch on fiddle, Rob Ickes on resonator guitar and Scott Coney on guitar, and he stayed with the band for the shows that followed: a set at the Station Inn in August, a Carnegie Hall concert on 28 October and “Blacktop” on David Letterman’s show. He later played bass on all twelve tracks of Dale Ann Bradley’s Pocket Full of Keys (Pinecastle, June 2015).
