Sing Me a Bluegrass Song is a 1963 Starday Records album (SLP-249) by Hylo Brown and the Timberliners. Frank "Hylo" Brown Jr. (1922–2003), a Kentucky native, earned his nickname for a three-and-a-half-octave vocal range that moved seamlessly between bass and falsetto. After recording for Capitol beginning in 1954, Brown toured with Flatt & Scruggs in 1957, raising his national profile considerably, then signed with Starday in 1961. This album represents the core of his Starday work — direct, unadorned traditional bluegrass played with the Timberliners in the hard-driving style he had cultivated since his earliest recordings. Brown was inducted into the SPBGMA Preservation Hall of Fame in 2003, the year of his death, in recognition of his contributions to the classic bluegrass vocal tradition.
