Sing the Songs They Like Best

The Stanley Brothers

Album · 1961 · King 772

Sing the Songs They Like Best, released by King Records in November 1961, gathers Stanley Brothers material recorded during a productive January 1961 stretch at the label's Cincinnati studio — the period when Syd Nathan was working the brothers hard through quick, multi-album sessions. The program leans into the gospel and traditional material the duo had been performing for nearly fifteen years by that point, with the Clinch Mountain Boys lineup of the time framing Carter's lead and Ralph's high tenor. King's late-Stanley LPs would lean heavily on this kind of session backlog, and Sing the Songs They Like Best stands as one of the more cohesive of them — an unhurried late selection.
