Smoky Mountain Favorites, released in 2023, is a project from Boone and Foster that situates itself within the rich and specific geography of the southern Appalachians. The Smoky Mountains carry particular weight in the bluegrass tradition: they form the backdrop for some of the music's oldest material and for the tourist economy that sustained live performance through much of the mid-twentieth century. Boone and Foster, working in a traditional idiom, approach this familiar territory with the respect it deserves, offering performances that function as testimony to the continued vitality of the regional sound.
