Son of the South is Leroy Troy’s 1994 album for Bos Records (BOS-4523-CD), recorded at Eleven-O-Three Studio in Nashville and engineered by Mark Howard. Troy, a clawhammer banjo player from Goodlettsville, Tennessee, built the record out of the nineteenth-century minstrel and old-time repertory he is known for — “Cindy,” “Dan Tucker,” “Lynchburg Town,” “Cotton Eyed Joe,” “New River Train,” “Alabama Jubilee” — sung as well as played, in the parlour-and-porch manner that later made him a fixture on the Marty Stuart Show. Twelve tracks, closing on “Home Sweet Home.”
