Stanley Series, Vol. 1, No. 2, released by Copper Creek Records in 1982, documents a Sunday-evening Stanley Brothers performance from May 15, 1960 at the New River Ranch outdoor park in Rising Sun, Maryland. The lineup that night was Ralph Stanley on banjo, Carter Stanley on guitar, Curley Lambert on mandolin, Ralph Mayo on fiddle, and Lindy "Tennessee Mort" Clear on bass; the band had played at Antioch College in Ohio the night before and driven the roughly five hundred miles to Maryland for the gig. Lamar Grier captured the set on tape. Copper Creek's Stanley Series preserved working-band moments like this one in a way no commercial live recording of the brothers ever did.
