The Final Chapter, released in 1986, is a posthumous Don Reno album — Reno had died in October 1984, and the album represents one of the late projects assembled from his last working sessions with the Tennessee Cut-Ups. Reno had been one of the founding banjo voices of bluegrass, his three-finger style developing independently of Earl Scruggs's in the late 1940s; his single-string innovations let him play melodic and fiddle-tune material note for note on the banjo, an approach that influenced generations of players. The album sits as a closing document of a career that had stretched from his early-1950s King Records work with Red Smiley through the Reno-Harrell partnership and into his final solo years.
