"The Game," released in 2014 on Rounder Records, is Blue Highway's eleventh studio album, featuring the band's long-running quintet of Wayne Taylor (bass, vocals), Shawn Lane (mandolin, fiddle, vocals), Tim Stafford (guitar, vocals), Jason Burleson (banjo, vocals), and Rob Ickes (dobro). The album sat atop the Bluegrass Unlimited chart for seven consecutive months — an exceptional run — and earned Stafford the IBMA Songwriter of the Year award while receiving an IBMA Album of the Year nomination. Ickes's resonator work anchors a set built around three lead vocalists and clean ensemble interplay. "The Game" proved to be Ickes's final studio recording with the band, giving it an inadvertent valedictory weight in the Blue Highway canon.
