Time Stands Still (Rounder 0479, 2001) is the debut solo album of Ron Stewart, a multi-instrumentalist who plays banjo, fiddle, and mandolin and who served at the time as a key member of the Lynn Morris Band. The album showcases Stewart's command across all three instruments, with Jason Burleson and Jesse Brock contributing as sidemen. Stewart's banjo playing — anchored in part on a 1937 Gibson TB-1 conversion — and his fiddle work place him in the lineage of technical mastery that has characterized Rounder's instrumental catalog since the label's founding. The record documents a musician of exceptional range at a transitional moment, before his solo career had fully separated from his work as a sideman within one of the most acclaimed traditional bluegrass bands of the 1990s.
