Time to Pick (Noxubee Hills Music Group NOX-CD 002, 2020) is a studio album from the duo of mandolinist Alan Sibley and multi-instrumentalist Anthony Howell, presenting acoustic string music with a Mississippi-grounded sensibility. Sibley plays mandolin throughout; Howell plays banjo and guitar across different tracks; Melody Williamson contributes fiddle; and Mark Tribble holds the bass. Noxubee Hills is Sibley's own micro-label, named after the Noxubee Hills region of Mississippi, and the album reflects the regional character of the music it documents — a Southern acoustic tradition that sits between old-time, bluegrass, and gospel without fully committing to any single category. Time to Pick serves as a document of a specific local approach to the acoustic string repertoire and introduces a pairing of musicians active outside the major festival and touring circuits.
