Together Again, released on MCA in 1978, pairs Bill Monroe with his son James Monroe — the bluegrass patriarch alongside the younger Monroe, who had built his own career leading the Midnight Ramblers. Recorded early in 1978 with producer Walter Haynes, the album sets Bill's mandolin and high tenor against James's lead singing on a program of Monroe-associated and traditional material. By this point Bill was an elder statesman whose style had long been canonized, and the record carries the warmth of a family collaboration as much as a formal session. James had spent years in and around his father's world, and the blood harmony between them gives the album its character.
