Traditional Bluegrass, released by the Vern Williams Band in 2004, honors the California-based traditionalist who was among the most important figures in the West Coast bluegrass scene without achieving the national profile his music warranted. Vern Williams, a native of the Arkansas Ozarks who moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1950s, maintained an absolute fidelity to the hard-core Monroe-influenced style across a performing career spanning five decades. 'Bald Knob Arkansas' exemplifies the uncompromising mountain sound that Williams never softened for California audiences or crossover markets. His musical partner Ray Park contributed fiddle playing of comparable purity.
