Tree on a Hill (Sugar Hill, 1994) is credited to Peter Rowan and the Rowan Brothers: Peter Rowan on guitar, banjo and lead vocal, Lorin Rowan on 12-string guitar, mandolin and tenor, and Chris Rowan on guitar and harmony vocal. Peter Rowan produced the album, and Barry Poss was executive producer. Richard Greene plays fiddle, Viktor Krauss bass and Kester Smith percussion, with Sally Van Meter and Cindy Cashdollar on dobro, lap steel and Weissenborn slide guitar on individual tracks.

The eleven tracks include “Man of Constant Sorrow,” “Rye Whiskey,” “Fair and Tender Ladies” and “Lone Pilgrim,” with “Man of Constant Sorrow” and “Lone Pilgrim” credited as traditional. Rowan is credited with the title song, “Faith, Love and Devotion” and “Mary Magdalene,” and the sibling co-writes “Long Time” and, with Townes Van Zandt, “I’ll Be There.” Van Zandt is also credited on “No Lonesome Tune.”
