Wildwood Flower is a 2003 album by June Carter Cash, released not long before her death that same year and standing as a valedictory return to the mountain and Appalachian material of her family inheritance. June Carter grew up inside the first family of American country music: her mother Maybelle Carter was one of the Carter Family's three original members. The title track is one of the most famous songs in the American folk canon, associated indelibly with the Carter Family's 1928 recording. June's reading, late in her life, carries the full weight of that lineage.
