Eric Weissberg and Steve Mandell were two New York studio players who arranged and recorded “Dueling Banjos” for the 1972 film Deliverance, Weissberg on banjo and Mandell on guitar. Issued as a single credited to Weissberg alone, it spent four weeks at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1973 and won the Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance.
