Crooked tunes have phrases that don’t add up to even measures — an extra beat here, a measure dropped there, a 7-beat phrase where you’d expect 8. The form is old (Appalachian fiddlers played them this way before square dance callers smoothed everything to 8s) and modern players have brought them back. Seventeen crooked tunes in our catalog.
