J.D. Crowe & the New South came out of Lexington, Kentucky in the early 1970s and became the launching pad for an extraordinary list of future bluegrass leaders — Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Douglas, Keith Whitley. The 1975 self-titled “Rounder 0044” album is widely considered one of the greatest bluegrass recordings ever made. Nineteen recordings on this site canonically by the New South.
