“Molly Bloom” is a banjo tune written by Alan Munde, one of the figures who expanded the melodic possibilities of the bluegrass banjo. He composed it as a young man, and it was first recorded in 1969 by Poor Richard’s Almanac, the band he played in alongside Sam Bush and Wayne Stewart.
The piece is a banjo instrumental and one of Munde’s earliest original tunes. It went on to become a signature composition for him, recorded by other musicians and kept alive in his instructional teaching.
