Road to Malvern

“The Road to Malvern” is a modern old-time tune in the key of A written by the Virginia fiddler Jim Childress of Free Union, a member of the string band Uncle Henry’s Favorites for more than forty years. He named it after the town in Arkansas where his wife was raised. He recorded it on his 2004 album Turkey Sag, a collection of his original fiddle tunes; the title tune, “Halfway Pond” and “Shadowdragon” are among his other compositions, and his biography says they have become widely known and played in the old-time community.
