Doug Jernigan is a Florida-born pedal-steel guitarist whose Nashville session work with Faron Young, Johnny Paycheck, Vassar Clements, Little Jimmy Dickens, and Lorrie Morgan placed him among the most-recorded steel players of the 1970s onward — a 1994 International Steel Guitar Hall of Fame inductee.
- Born January 5, 1946 in Pensacola, Florida; received his first steel guitar at age 9 and first pedal steel (a Fender 1000 double-neck) at age 12.
- Moved to Nashville one month after returning from Vietnam to do session work and club gigs as a pedal steel sideman.
- Replaced Jimmie Crawford in Faron Young's band The Country Deputies in late 1969.
- Long-time Nashville session player; performed with Faron Young, Johnny Paycheck, Vassar Clements, Little Jimmy Dickens, and Lorrie Morgan.
- Pioneered fast single-note solo technique on pedal steel that rivals fiddle and banjo speed.
- Inducted into the International Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 1994.
- Recorded duo album with jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli (Doug & Bucky).
- Frequent performer on the Grand Ole Opry; also a respected steel-guitar instructor.
