The Cherokee people worked hard on this land
And fought for their nation no gun in their hand
Prayed for their crops and theirfamilies here
Lost and forsaken they all disappeared
Down a trail of tears

Wagons brought travelers in search of a dream
And the music they played it still rings through my trees
I've tasted the moonshine they spilled on the ground
Down some dark holler the sun never found

I watched the miners selling their souls
Just to tunnel inside me and dig for my coal
The sea then came in and the rocks they did slide
19 of my children were buried alive
And their families cried
