Steve Thomas is a Connecticut-born fiddler, mandolinist, and singer who is credited with naming the Lonesome River Band as an original 1983 member, has held seats with The Whites, the Osborne Brothers, and Cardinal Tradition, and currently leads Steve Thomas & The Time Machine.
- From Vernon, Connecticut. Won Virginia State Fiddle Championship (1981) and the World's Fair Fiddle Contest in Knoxville (1982); also won Galax Fiddlers' Convention and Virginia state mandolin championship.
- Started professionally with Del McCoury's Dixie Pals in 1982.
- Original member of the Lonesome River Band (1983) and is credited with naming the band.
- Played with Jim & Jesse (1984), The Lost and Found (1985), The Whites (1985–1988), and The Osborne Brothers (1988–1991).
- Received CMA Vocal/Instrumental Group of the Year nominations as member of The Whites (1985) and a Grammy nomination as member of The Osborne Brothers (1989).
- Joined Ronnie Bowman's band (2003) and David Parmley & Cardinal Tradition (2017); formed duo with Mark Newton (2013, album "Reborn").
- Formed Steve Thomas & The Time Machine (2019) on Bonfire Records; "Old McDonald Sold the Farm" hit #1 on bluegrass charts (2014).
- Extensive Nashville session work behind Aaron Tippin, Barbara Mandrell, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, John Michael Montgomery, Lee Ann Womack, Lorrie Morgan, and Montgomery Gentry.
