Thunderclouds of Love

The lyric is thankful. A man whose love for a woman hit like a flash of lightning, pouring down from the thunderclouds of love, is at first frightened by it, then sure it was sent to him from God above. He tells how he prayed through nights on end for someone who could make him live again, and ends by saying he will never be lonely again, because he will always have her with him.

Others took it up over the years: the Bluegrass Association of Independence, Missouri, recorded it in 1974, Hubert Davis and the Season Travelers played it live at the Wind in the Willows in Nashville on 17 April 1980, and the Traditional Grass of Ohio recorded it in 1990. Tony Rice sang it in 1988 on Plays and Sings Bluegrass (Rounder 0253), recorded at Bias Recorders in Springfield, Virginia, with Bill Emerson on banjo and baritone, Jimmy Gaudreau on mandolin and tenor, Jerry Douglas on dobro and Mark Schatz on bass. Time-Life put his version on its 2003 collection Bluegrass Today.
